EXPO Chicago 2025
Booth 441
Opera Gallery is pleased to present 11 paintings and 10 charcoal drawings by Brazilian artist Gustavo Nazareno at the 2025 edition of EXPO Chicago, based upon fables that draw inspiration from the pantheon of Orixás - a system of entities worshipped in parts of Africa and Latin America - while incorporating wide-ranging influences, from the traditions of Afro-Latin religions to the aesthetics of fashion photography.
In tandem with the gallery’s participation in the fair, The DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center in Chicago will host a special presentation of a painting and drawing studies by Nazareno as wall as ‘Flashing Blackness: Afro Brazilian Art through Expressions of the Divine’, a conversation between Nazareno and Danny Dunson, the museum’s Director of Curatorial Services and Community Partnerships.
