Adrián Navarro, Paraísos

12 September - 19 October 2024

Opera Gallery is pleased to present 'Paraísos', the inaugural solo exhibition of Adrián Navarro at its Madrid location. Opening on 12 September and running until 19 October, this exhibition showcases Navarro's latest works, inviting viewers to explore a mythical and untouched environment—a paradise where "organic forms are manifestations of life in its maximum splendour" in Navarro's own words.

The exhibition’s title, 'Paraísos', echoes the introspective spirit of Thoreau's Walden, yet it also carries a tangible, down-to-earth quality reminiscent of Sue Hubbell’s narratives, making the work feel profoundly real. Navarro, who has a background in architecture, applies a calculated restraint and harmony in his painting concealed by the apparent spontaneity and organic quality perceived by viewers. His landscapes, devoid of human presence, appear self-sufficient and immerse the observer in a continuous flow that balances the objective with the abstract, the intimate with the subtle.

In his "Paraísos" series, Navarro’s use of colour transcends mere tinting of lines, shapes, or geometries. Instead, colour emerges as a central character, interacting with others on the canvas to create emotional fields that reach out to the viewer, aiming to foster inner harmony. The dynamic between colours and planes is palpable, with colour—whether applied directly or by transfer—becoming the dominant force. This interplay adds layers and subworlds to the depicted reality, guiding viewers toward introspective sanctuaries.

Adrián Navarro’s work invites a deeper understanding of painting as an organic expression of life, infused with its own transformative laws. His approach offers a multifaceted exploration of paradise, challenging viewers to shape their vision of an ideal place through his vibrant and evocative paintings.
